Countdown to GQ Men of the Year Awards 201913.08.19
Buckle up. It's now less than a month to go until the 22nd annual GQ Men of the Year Awards, in association with Hugo Boss. Here's the lowdown on the Awards extravaganza.
What do the Awards celebrate?
GQ Men of the Year is a ceremony that honours the men and women who shape the world's cultural landscape - from style and entertainment, to politics and sport. Last year there were 22 winners and this year there may be even more.
One of the most anticipated events of the calendar year, the glamorous show will see an eclectic mix of icons, superstars and tastemakers come together under one roof to celebrate some of the most inspirational and current figures of today. Sixteen year-old climate change activist Greta Thunberg has already been announced as the first ever winner of the GQ Game Changer Award.
Where is it taking place?
The GQ MOTY Awards will be taking place at the Tate Modern, London, on the evening of the 3rd September. Once doors officially close to the public, the Timebased team will rapidly set up the entrance hall and roll out the long red carpet. The main dinner, live entertainment and awards proceedings will take place in the impressive Turbine Hall, and will welcome over 600 guests.
Who is this year's host?
The 2019 show will be hosted by Welsh actor and activist Michael Sheen, who has previously been a winner of a GQ award himself - for Actor of the Year. The Good Omens star has said that he will donate his fee ahead of the event in support of the upcoming 2019 Homeless World Cup, to be held in Cardiff.
Who is attending?
The VIP guest lineup has not been announced - it's all quite hush hush. But, you can be sure that an assortment of stars will be there to both present and receive the honours. Last year had a mouthwatering array of famous faces, including HRH Prince Charles, John Legend, Kate Beckinsale, Jeff Goldblum and Naomi Campbell, to name a few. Despite being a men's magazine, the awards are open to all individuals irrespective of gender - 2018 saw Rose McGowan win the Inspiration Award, for example. Who do you think should nab a trophy this year?
How do I watch the Awards?
The event is generally invite-only, although this year there is the opportunity to purchase a ticket for a mere £7,500 per person... But fear not, if you don't have that kind of cash to hand, you can still catch the show through GQ's live Facebook stream on the night. GQ (@britishgq) will also be posting live stories and updates - follow all the action with the hashtag #GQAwards. And don't forget to follow our channels @timebased for more updates as well!
